These colorful pins are from a series of famous jockeys issued by Pepsin Gum around 1900. George Barrett, on the left, was the British Flat Racing Champion in 1888. During his career, he won all five of the classic English horse races. His most famous horse was La Fleche, with whom Barrett won The Oaks, though he was claimed to have deliberately thrown the 1892 Derby while aboard the same filly. Marty Bergen, on the right, was once the leader of U.S. turf racing. In 1890, Bergen was a last-minute replacement for a drunk Isaac Murphy aboard the great Salvator when he posted a mile time-trial in 1:35.5, an astonishing 2.75 seconds faster than the previous record. We have set them in fine silver bezels soldered to our custom-designed, sturdy one-piece sterling silver cufflink post.
