Begun in 1851, sailing’s America’s Cup is the world’s oldest continuously held sporting event. And in tribute to America's 132-year winning streak in the Cup, we present a spectacular pair of cufflinks featuring two Nineteenth Century victors, as depicted in Pepsin gum pins with matching rare light-blue backgrounds. The first pin features the sloop Puritan, which bested challenger Genesta in the 1885 contest. This race featured a consummate act of sportsmanship by the British captain in refusing to disqualify Puritan for damaging his boat. (He went on to lose the match.) The second pin shows Volunteer, a graceful clipper-bowed boat that marked the pinnacle of the racing sloop in Cup competition. Captained by Gen. Charles Paine, Volunteer easily defeated Britain’s secretly developed challenger, Thistle. We have set the pins in silver bezel cups soldered to silver cufflink posts. It is unlikely we will offer another pair of these of such high quality!
