Eros “Cy” Barger (left) was a starting pitcher for the Brooklyn Superbas (later the Dodgers) from 1910-12. He was a mediocre pitcher but holds several distinctions. He is the only major league player ever to graduate from Transylvania University. He played in all three major leagues: American, National and Federal. Barger was also the only Federal League pitcher to go from last in league ERA (5.46 in 1914) to first (2.29 in 1915). “SIlent” John Hummel (right) spent 11 seasons with Brooklyn, playing second base and batting near the top of the order. Hummel was only an average hitter who led the league in strikeouts in 1910, but was a slick-fielding second-baseman/shortstop during the heart of his career.
