The fleur de lis has been a component of French royal insignia since the time of Robert II, (996-1031 A.D.). The flower is believed to be a lily, and was historically gold against a blue field. For over a century, this pleasing heraldry pattern has been employed as a clothing and household decoration. These cufflinks are made from old stamped brass coat buttons, which bear 17 raised fleurs de lis against a black-painted field. These would go well with many of our stud sets, or would present an attractive, conservative image with a suit and tie.
